CHEF JON NODLER

A native of the greater Minneapolis area, Chef Nodler attended the UW-Madison, where he studied functional ceramics, Chinese Language and Art. Influenced by his studies, he brings an unusually commanding and creative aesthetic eye to the kitchen. Nodler got his start in professional kitchens at The Madison Club, under Chef Dan Fox, after which he worked as part of the opening kitchen team at Merchant. Chef Nodler moved to Philadelphia and joined Fork restaurant in 2012 with High Street Hospitality Group (HSHG) under chef-owner Eli Kulp. Fork was a semi-finalist for “Outstanding Restaurant” in both 2014 and 2015. Chef Nodler worked his way up to Executive Chef and Culinary Director for High Street Hospitality Group (High Street on Market, High Street on Hudson, a. kitchen + bar). High Street on Market was named The Inquirer’s “Restaurant of the Year” in 2014, and Bon Appetit named it #2 in the country in their annual “America’s Best New Restaurants” issue in 2014. He led the development and opening of High Street on Hudson in 2017. The New York Times awarded High Street on Hudson a “Two Stars Critic’s Pick” rating and named the Seaweed Buccatini with Lobster Bottarga one of the “top 10 restaurant dishes of the year.” Chef Nodler was awarded James Beard Foundation nominated semi-finalist for “Rising Star Chef” in 2015, Zagat’s “30 Under 30” culinary talents to watch and Star Chef’s NYC “Rising Star Chef 2017”. Chef Jon Nodler, along with his wife and partner Samantha Kincaid, opened Cadence in 2018, which earned Food & Wine Magazine’s “#1 Best New Restaurant” in 2019. Chef Nodler moved to Madison in 2021 and joined Rule No One Hospitality Group (RNO) as Culinary Director.

JAMES JUEDES
WINE DIRECTOR, MAITRE D', PARTNER

James Juedes has been able to draw upon inspirations to curate both unique wine and a brand of hospitality that is inspired both by his international travels and his roots in Wisconsin. Born in Wausau, WI, James graduated from UW-Madison with a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry. That scientific background translated well into working in a winery, and after a short tenure working at a local Wisconsin winery he enrolled in UC-Davis’ Extension Viticulture and Enology certificate program. James and his wife Bryna took jobs working for the government of Andalucía as teachers for grade school students in rural Spain in 2013. This allowed the having the opportunity to travel to vineyards and wineries throughout Spain and the rest of Europe. After a year abroad, James returned to the USA and accepted a Cellar Hand position at Alexana Winery in Oregon’s Willamette Valley to help process, ferment, and prepare the freshly harvested 2014 vintage for élevage with a focus on artisanal, single plot pinot noir ferments. Between harvest work, he furthered his professional wine background by completing the Wine and Spirits Education Trust Level 3 – Advanced Certificate in Wine and Spirits. James continued the path toward winemaker and accepted a position as Cellar Hand at Wither Hills in New Zealand’s Marlborough region. There he worked almost exclusively
with their pinot noir program, and gained perspective on quality oriented, commercial production during the 2015 vintage. After returning to Madison, James worked at
L’Etoile as sommelier and cellar manager. 
James opened Casetta in 2017 with, Chef Thomas Gering as a chef-and wine driven counter-style Italian American deli. The counter has been a city and industry gem, pushing the boundaries of quality food and wine in Madison with popup wine dinners, a wine club, and best-of catering. In 2020, James joined Rule No One Hospitality Group (RNO) as its Wine and Hospitality Director.

JOSHUA BERKSON
PARTNER

Josh Berkson is the founder and President of Rule No One Hospitality, a hospitality management company located in Madison, WI. He founded Lucille in May of 2016 and Merchant in December 2010. Both restaurants, located in the historic First Settlement District of Madison, are Madison institutions, and have become a stage for showcasing some of the best culinary and bartending talent in the city. Prior to Merchant, Joshua had a career as an independent marketing analyst and consultant for leading banks, retailers, marketers and manufacturers, and has conducted innovative consumer trend research and patterning across many sectors. He performed custom marketing analysis for Gap, Inc., M.H. Alshaya Co., Alliance Boots (London), Pepsi, Organized Living Inc., American Greetings Corp., The Fragrance Foundation, and Cadbury USA. Joshua spent four years on Wall Street as a working on behalf of the Market Data divisions of S.A.C. Capital Advisors, LP, George Weiss Associates, LLC and Gilder Gagnon Howe & Co., LLC. He also participated in predictive specialty retail stock performance studies for the Specialty Retail divisions of Merrill Lynch & Co, Inc., Harris Nesbitt, Bear Stearns & Co, Inc. Josh received his BA in Music and Business from NYU University and Le Grand Diplôme in Culinary Arts from The French Culinary Institute in New York City. Josh is married and has a son and daughter who live in Madison, WI.
